see mr. producer? i see chuck hagel. what kind of a commander in chief would nominate somebody like chuck hagel to be secretary of defense. i'll tell you what kind of commander in chief. the kind of commander in chief that arms the muslim brotherhood, regime in cairo. hollowing out the greatest military force on the face of the earth under his direct command, the united states military. >> wow. >> does he get to yell like that for four years. >> stephanie: he will be making more regular appearances on hannity's show. >> don't call me crazy. >> stephanie: eric, what kind of commander in chief would nominate -- >> exactly. how dare he? how dare he nominate a nebraska, republican vietnam veteran to be secretary of defense. so much for outreach, right? so much for obama working across party aisles. >> stephanie: you're right. the yelling makes it better. if you can't be right be loud. >> the press for four years demanded why can't obama make d.c. bipartisan? why can't he fix this bipartisan gap? so he -- he nominates a republican. sends him up for a hearing and the republicans maul chuc

for the cia, chuck hagel for defense and even john kerry for secretary of state. dick cheney believes that these people will put our country at risk, and particularly, he singled out chuck hagel, he thinks, dick cheney thinks barack obama nominated because he wants to have g.o.p. street cred and look, i have a republican here in my cabinet or nominated a republican so everybody be quiet. >> mike: and he says the choices were dismal and kind of seems like the country agrees. look at the latest fox news poll when it comes to this point. is the country today weaker compared to five years ago? 48%, almost half of us say it's weaker, less powerful. >> alisyn: half of that say it's stronger and more powerful. 27% say the same as before. they're not quite sure. and no wonder, a rough five years. >> the remarkable thing in another poll in the same series of polls, people are asked is thet bigger and more powerful. and the overwhelming majority says yes. the irony, even as government is more powerful domestically on everything we do, and we become weaker internationally. are they connected. >>

the chuck hagel you were outspoken. >> i don't think he's anti-semitic. i have no basis for saying that. i do believe he's hostile to israel, but he has a right to his position. tom friedman, his first sponsor that i read in his column said he is not mainstream. this is tom friedman who is advocating hagel. then his opponents say he's not mainstreet. why would you want a guy who's not mainstream in charge one of the biggest appointments, the defense department. if you don't believe in sanctions and you don't believe in war, what do you think we should do as it relates to stopping iran from getting the nuclear bomb? he believes that there should be much greater light distance, separation between israel and the united states. so as to make the arab countries more friendly to us. they want to kill us. they want to kill christians and jews and they say they're going to convert either voluntarily or by force. and that's been their history. so why would we want to jettison, which is really the way i feel he's acting, the only democratic state in the area that we can rely on, israel, in exchange

the administration stand behind chuck hagel is because the president nominated him in part because as a war hero, he has the credibility to make some of the really difficult cuts and choices. i think there's some truth to what donny is saying is that the only fair and workable solution is one in which everybody is unhappy. that is so contrary to the nature of politics. we have heard the president say in the past, the truth is in the future, everybody is going to have to pay more and get less. he said that a little bit, but it's never been his main message because it is not a winning message, and it will probably never be a winning message for any politician. >> they all say the other side has got to get more, but no politician says, you know what, guys, we're all going to have to put skin in the game, whether you're a hedge fund guy, a minimum wage worker, a democrat, a republican, an nra guy, wherever you are, we're all going into our pockets in some form. and nobody wants to do it. it's okay if it's the other guy. not republican or democrat, this is what is wrong with our generation, frankly. >> w
